We have launched a new campaign with a total fundraising goal of $175,000.
This campaign has two focal points – the purchase of two state-of-the-art swallow scopes for our Speech and Language and Diagnostic Imaging departments, as well as a Futures Fund component to assure the long-term sustainability of the Foundation.
The Futures Fund is an operating fund; Utilizing the interest on our investments to cover administrative and operating costs. This is how we are able to assure that 100% of all designated donations support what you intend them to. With a fundraising goal of $65,000 the Futures Fund guarantees a stable future for the Foundation where we continue making a difference in healthcare close to home for many generations to come.
The swallow scopes will allow our hospital to perform and record specialized swallow testing which will allow Speech and Language Pathologists to review what is happening in the mouth and throat during chewing and swallowing. These tests help to guide appropriate treatments or modifications that will help patients safely consume nutrition and improve medically. In our hospital there are one to three patients every week who need these tests. There are few locations in Alberta who have the appropriate equipment and training to perform this procedure; this requires a lengthy referral process to other facilities and patients are often held in acute care for much longer – up to four weeks per patient. The total approximate cost of these tools is $110,000. By adding these life-changing resources to our Hospital we are not only helping patients and easing a strain on the system, but we are setting a new standard of rural healthcare.
